ONLINE CLASS: Getting stated with Furniture Painting & Geometric Design - The Box workshop
Would you like to upcycle furniture with a smooth, modern finish and distinctive geometric designs?
Are you wanting to have a bit of a go to see if you like it, before tackling a full on furniture projects?
Or perhaps you've started but the technique is troubling you and you'd to take a step back and go through getting the basics right?
Or maybe you just fancy a fun workshop where you get some creative time and to make a funky geometric box! It could be the perfect thing to pop a gift or two in this Christmas :)
If any of the above, come and join me on this live online workshop!
It's the perfect way to have a go at that first painting project, plus and to get the essentials right from the start - making product selection and technique simple for you - so you can move forward with confidence to tackle bigger projects!
It's a live work together class where we'll create together side-by-side online to paint and create a design on a wooden box.
The idea is that you get an introduction to the essentials of tackling furniture so I'll talk to you about prep, then we'll get into painting techniques and finally onto adding our designs. And of course, you'll end up with your own keepsake design box at the end!
I've taught my 'Box workshop' to over 250 people - at least! - and I have seen every single person smiling at what they have achieved by the end - even those who came and said 'I'm not very creative'! It's a real joy to see :)
Designing this way is something I fully believe everyone can enjoy whether you go on to do something else, take it to a more advanced level or not. It's a way to create designs (without needing fancy equipment or being good at tech) for all sorts of decorative items and it's a very satisfying and enjoyable thing to do too, once you nail a few of the essentials!
I decided to bring this class back in an online format as it's the perfect way to ease yourself into the creative process in a very relaxed, undaunting way, without putting lots of pressure on yourself to have this perfect finished piece of furniture at the end.
Whether you want to move on to working with furniture afterwards, or have already been but not dared to let yourself 'go' yet design-wise, this will definitely get your creative juices flowing and give you the best taping technique there is.
It's also a lot of fun as you can see by the photos from the previous workshops!
It's fine if you've already got some experience of painting or you're just starting out as I'll be focussing on the specific set of methods - the 'recipe' of products and technique - that help you get great results with tape design.
I'll also talk about not worrying about making mistakes (and how to fix them if you do!) so you don't let the fear of not being perfect get in the way of letting yourself get to creating.
I'll demonstrate one design, you can follow me along faithfully if you prefer, with your own choice of colours. Or you might start to freestyle a little once you get going.
If you have a specific idea in mind, I can help you with how to create it.
I'll talk about the best sequence of laying out and share tips about other methods to give you some more ideas.
We'll end up with some very satisfying tape reveal moments of course! :)
How it works:
Choose how you'd like to attend... The class will be run over Zoom and you will need a webcam to join and 'be in the room' with me where you can chat, ask questions and show how you are getting on.
It will also be Live on Facebook in a private event where you can watch and ask questions via the comments. An option you might like if you prefer not to be on camera or would rather just watch along initially and have a go later by yourself!
The FB Live format will also have live captions available - the Zoom one will have captions only on the Recorded version.
It's pretty relaxed and informal and you can obviously come and go - the class run time is approx 3 hours.
Whichever you decide to go for, you'll get access to the recording afterwards to access as often as you like.
What you'll need
In this class I'll use a wooden lidded box as a base to paint and then create a geometric tape design on. You can use any flat bare wood surface for this though.
You'll need a couple of paint colours and a brush and some tape as a minimum.
So you know what are the best types to get there will be a suggested supply list available as soon as when you book on with options (I can always help if you are not in the UK to find alternatives if the brands aren't available where you are).
If you are in the UK you can buy the Box kit herewhich includes paint and brushes. (Make sure to order a minimum of 4 working days before the class is scheduled)
You can also buy separately buy Fusion Mineral Paint in 35ml tester pots, Roberson Liquid Metal in 30ml pots and brushes which would be perfect for the class - Paint & Etc
