This Rosewood Victorian Antique Canterbury is a really unusual piece that had seen better days, but which has been repaired and re-finished to give it a new lease of life.
It has been updated with matt gun-metal grey paint, leaving some of the original wood where possible to show through as a contrast. There are two of the original four fret-work panels left so these have been stripped and refinished and set in the front and back of the piece.
The drawer front has also been stripped and refinished. The original wood is also visible in the reverse stencilling on the top surface in a circular design to match the top rails.
Originally designed to hold sheet music, this particular piece also has a table as well as the divider section at the bottom which could now hold records, bottles, books or magazines, making the top useful to hold a record player, make drinks or use as a side table.
The whole thing has been finished off with several protective coats of a wax-effect varnish, which gives it a soft, subtle sheen to the grey finish.
